Hay Production

As part of being vertically integrated, we produce our own hay, haylage (grass, oats and peas), and occasionally oats. Typically our haylage production starts at the end of April to the end of June (weather dependent of course). Haylage is a type of feed for cattle made from grasses or legumes that would regularly be used for hay. Haylage is a high-moisture,fermented feed, similar to silage. However, in our case we make large round bales and wrap them in an air tight white plastic wrap. We harvest about 80 acres of our own for haylage and some hay. Once first cutting is finished, we take a second cutting off a few month later of regular hay.
